The Red Matador — 1954 Buick Skylark
Buick introduced the Skylark in 1953 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. In 1954, the company sold only 836 Skylarks because its price matched that of Cadillac models. Buick painted the Skylark’s body in a rich “Matador Red.” The inner wings were painted elegant white. This contrast highlighted the Kelsey-Hayes wire-spoke wheels and whitewall tires.
The car features a bold chrome grille above a shiny bumper. Chrome trim runs along the side panels, adding style. Inside, red leather covers the seats. The Skylark offers power-assisted brakes and steering. It also includes electric seats, windows, and a power-operated roof. A V8 engine under the hood pushes the car to a top speed of 166 km/h (103 mph).
In 1990, someone fully restored the car. It last sold at auction for $77,000.
