AJ Fernandez San Lotano Oval
The San Lotano brand by AJ Fernandez was launched in 2010 as part of the development of his independent portfolio, with the Oval line joining the range in 2011. The cigar is produced at Tabacalera Fernandez in Estelí, Nicaragua, using tobacco sourced from the company’s own farms in the renowned growing regions of Jalapa, Condega, and Estelí.
The name San Lotano originates from a Cuban cigar brand once owned by the Fernandez family before the Cuban Revolution, while Oval refers to the cigar’s distinctive shape—a gently rounded box-press rather than the traditional sharp-edged format. This unique construction makes it particularly comfortable to hold between the lips.
The Gordo (6 x 60) is wrapped in an Ecuadorian-grown Habano wrapper from Cuban seed, displaying a light brown hue with an oily sheen. The binder is Nicaraguan, while the filler consists of tobaccos from Nicaragua and Honduras, enhanced by Fernandez’s own proprietary blending component.
The cigar delivers an impressively balanced profile of leather, nuts, and cedar, complemented by notes of dark chocolate and spice. It is presented in an elegant box containing 20 cigars.
