It seems that this year will be the year of skeleton watches. Nearly every brand is unveiling them, even those we wouldn’t expect. In this case, Arnold & Son surprises with a creation in a surprisingly compact size, showcasing a form of technical prowess. Encased in a round steel housing with a diameter of just 38 mm and a height of 8.9 mm, and featuring sapphire crystals on both sides, is a hand-finished caliber from Arnold & Son, with manual winding and a 90-hour power reserve.
The main plate of the dial is meticulously stripped of excess material, finished with manual polishing, and then coated with a matte black finish. The bridges extend unusually from the dial’s peripheral ring to support the movement components of the caliber, with all internal parts finished using the finest traditional Swiss watchmaking techniques, despite the brand’s English origins (operating in Switzerland since 1995).
According to the creators, the design inspiration comes from an ancient Gothic vault within a cathedral. The smooth calfskin leather strap completes the watch’s complex, layered, and timeless appearance.
Price: $15,000.
