Unlike many producers, the family-run house does not grow its own grapes. Instead, it purchases young Armagnacs produced by local distillers. Philippe Gelas, the fifth generation of the family to head the business, then creates the blends according to the character and qualities of the newly acquired brandies.
The house, essentially a traditional winery and ageing cellar located in the village of Vic-Fezensac, specializes in producing premium Armagnacs. To achieve the desired complexity and character, different types of barrels are used for varying periods of maturation.
B. Gelas continues to operate from the same premises where the family business was founded in 1865, in the Bas-Armagnac region, an area particularly renowned for the quality of its grapes and eaux-de-vie.
Light brown in color, this Armagnac immediately awakens the senses from the very first sip. It is powerful and full-bodied, with a slightly assertive character at first, gradually revealing a rich aromatic profile of plums and grapes.
The finish is exceptionally long, leaving the warmth and fruit character lingering on the palate.
