On the rugged Scottish island of Islay, an historic distillery has been producing whisky since 1881.
Bunnahabhain creates single malt Scotch whisky with a distinctive sense of place. In every glass, one can discover elements associated with the distillery’s remote geographical location and the maritime climate surrounding it – hints of salinity, minerality and the character of the island itself.
The distillery stands amid the dramatic landscape of Islay, one of Scotland’s Inner Hebrides, an island famous for its peatlands and long whisky-making tradition. The buildings themselves may appear functional and unassuming, but inside lies a treasure of aromas and flavors.
The island’s challenging, wet climate – shaped by wind, rain and the surrounding sea – accompanies the whisky throughout its long maturation in oak casks, contributing to its unmistakable sense of place.
After 25 years of ageing, the whisky displays a deep golden color.
Despite its considerable 46.3% ABV, it is remarkably elegant and easy to drink. Its strength seems to translate into a delicate sweetness rather than alcoholic heat.
The palate is filled with dried fruits, including golden raisins, accompanied by rich notes of sherry and sweet toffee.
As the whisky continues to develop, flavors reminiscent of stewed red fruits emerge, joined by toasted almonds and a subtle veil of smoke in the background.
The finish seems almost endless – long, rich and beautifully persistent.
A mature Islay single malt that combines power, elegance and remarkable depth.
