Caran d’Ache Year of the Dragon Red 2024 Fountain Pen — Honoring Chinese Culture
Caran d’Ache, the luxury writing brand from Geneva, has honored Asian culture for decades. Founded in 1924 by Arnold Schweitzer, the company releases a special edition pen every year inspired by the Chinese zodiac.
In 2024, Caran d’Ache celebrates the powerful Dragon—the fifth sign in the zodiac and the most fortunate. This year is even more special. Once every 60 years, the Dragon is paired with the Wood element, a symbol of growth and achievement.
The pen’s design reflects these ideas beautifully. Its bold red lacquered body is made from brass and crafted in Caran d’Ache’s Geneva workshop. The red finish is applied with care by a master lacquer artist, using both traditional skills and modern tools.
A golden dragon engraving wraps around the barrel. It was designed by Jean-Philippe Kalonji, an official brand ambassador. The dragon appears in incredible detail, with finely engraved scales that catch the light.
To match the bold red body, the pen is trimmed in 18-karat gold. This includes the clip, cap ring, and the solid gold nib—each one polished by hand. Customers can choose from a variety of nib widths and even request custom engraving.
This edition is limited to just 888 pens. In Chinese culture, the number 8 symbolizes luck and balance, making this release even more meaningful. Each pen has its unique serial number engraved on the cap’s end.
The pen is presented in a luxury red box with a magnetic lid. The box is wrapped in premium paper and embossed with a dragon scale pattern to complete the theme.
Bottom Line:
A striking, handcrafted writing instrument that combines artistry, symbolism, and luxury—all in honor of the Year of the Dragon.
