Daniel Bouju Royal Brut de Fût is a blend of several eaux-de-vie, produced from grapes grown in different vineyards within the same region. All are based on Ugni Blanc, yet their individual characteristics come together to create a distinctive and powerful final expression.
The grapes originate in Grande Champagne, the premier cru of the Cognac region and a terroir renowned for producing eaux-de-vie of exceptional finesse and ageing potential.
In the glass, the Cognac displays a deep, dark brown color and releases an abundance of aromas reminiscent of sweet dried fruits.
The first sip is powerful, attacking the senses with the intensity one would expect from a spirit bottled at 60% ABV.
Add a little water, however – approximately a teaspoon per glass – and the Cognac begins to transform.
Its character becomes rounder, softer and considerably more approachable. The aromas open dramatically, rich notes of honey emerge from the glass, and the tasting experience enters an entirely new dimension.
Despite its formidable strength, the Cognac develops a remarkably caressing texture, accompanied by lingering sweetness and pronounced notes of toasted and charred oak.
The French term “Brut de Fût” refers to a spirit bottled at or close to its natural cask strength. It is an appropriate description for a Cognac in which the influence of long maturation in oak plays such an important role.
This is a powerful, uncompromising Grande Champagne Cognac – one that rewards patience, a little water and careful tasting.
