Françoise Dartigalongue, representing the fifth generation of a family with a long and distinguished tradition in Armagnac, continues to preserve the heritage of the house.
The spirit is produced in southwestern France, a region celebrated not only for Armagnac but also for its rich gastronomy – particularly foie gras, which has a natural affinity with the local spirit.
The production process shares certain principles with Cognac, but Armagnac is traditionally distilled only once. This helps preserve distinctive characteristics associated with the grapes and vineyard terroir, giving the spirit a strong sense of identity and origin.
At Dartigalongue, three cellars are used for the maturation of young Armagnac. The spirit moves through different stages of ageing according to the number and type of barrels employed.
After many years in oak, the mature Armagnac is transferred into demijohns – large glass vessels with capacities of up to 25 liters. This effectively removes the spirit from further interaction with oak, allowing its mature character to rest without continued influence from the barrel.
The final Armagnac is then assembled from spirits preserved in these glass vessels.
Dartigalongue Bas-Armagnac 1989 displays a light amber color and immediately reveals powerful aromas of fresh earth and toasted wood.
These are joined by generous notes of orange peel and smoky spices, creating a deep and distinctive aromatic profile.
After pouring – and particularly with the addition of an ice cube or a teaspoon of cold water – the spirit begins to soften in the glass, revealing the finesse and elegance expected after more than 25 years of maturation.
It can be enjoyed as an aperitif, although in its native region it is often savored leisurely alongside the local cuisine – particularly rich foie gras.
A mature vintage Bas-Armagnac that brings together terroir, tradition and the unmistakable flavors of southwestern France.
