The Return of the Colossus of Rhodes – Pelikan Colossus of Rhodes
The German writing-instrument manufacturer Pelikan pays tribute to the Colossus of Rhodes, the monumental statue of the Greek sun god Helios, patron deity of the island of Rhodes. Considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the statue was constructed over a period of 12 years, between 280 and 292 BCE, and was destroyed by an earthquake just 56 years after its completion.
This limited-edition fountain pen, with each piece individually numbered, reflects in its design the noble materials from which the legendary statue was built—marble, iron, and bronze, enhanced with gold accents. To achieve this, Pelikan incorporated bronze elements and gold plating into the outer casing, marble at the base of the pen, and an iron framework within its internal structure.
The pen’s barrel features an artistic depiction of the Colossus itself, seamlessly blending classical art, contemporary design, and technical mastery. The luxurious presentation box is adorned with an artistic rendering of the Port of Rhodes, the statue’s legendary location.
