A film that captures — with the signature Hollywood twist — the true events leading up to the legendary 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Ford v Ferrari tells the story of Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon), the famed engineer whose name still graces Ford’s high-performance muscle cars, and Ken Miles (Christian Bale), the fearless race car driver. Together, they battle not only Ferrari, but also Ford’s conservative corporate culture — and, naturally, the laws of physics — in their quest to beat the seemingly invincible Italian marque in one of the world’s most prestigious endurance races.
Out of that epic showdown and the wave of innovation it sparked was born the Ford GT40 — to this day, the most coveted and valuable Ford ever built. In reality, Ford didn’t just beat Ferrari once. It went on to dominate Le Mans for three more consecutive years. The original GT40 was based on a British racing chassis from the Lola workshop, into which Ford dropped a monstrous 7-liter V8 built specifically for endurance racing.
The rest, as they say, is history. Estimated value today: around $4.25 million.
