A rare and distinguished single malt from the renowned Glenfiddich Distillery, founded in 1887.
Glenfiddich Excellence spent 26 years maturing in American oak ex-bourbon casks, allowing decades of interaction between spirit and wood to shape its elegant and complex character.
During a tasting in Israel, a representative of the distillery introduced us to some of the secrets of properly tasting fine whisky. We were advised to gently warm the glass – much as one might do when tasting Cognac – to encourage the aromas to develop.
With this particular whisky, however, there was hardly any need.
The aromas simply burst from the glass, revealing floral notes accompanied by a delicate smoky impression of burnt almonds.
Golden in color, the whisky is full-bodied and remarkably rich, yet maintains an elegant delicacy despite its 43% ABV.
It is a highly complex single malt, continuously changing and revealing new flavors throughout the tasting experience.
The finish is exceptionally long, with an almost sweet character lingering on the palate.
And yes – a teaspoon of cold water really does make a difference.
