There is tequila, and then there is Herradura.
The historic distillery is located on a 19th-century hacienda in the town of Amatitán, in the heart of Jalisco, a region inseparably linked with the cultivation of agave and the production of tequila.
Herradura produces a variety of tequila expressions, but Selección Suprema Extra Añejo stands apart. It is made from carefully selected blue Weber agave, the essential variety used in tequila production.
The choice of high-quality agave is only the beginning. Fermentation using naturally occurring yeasts contributes additional character, reflecting the warm, dry environment in which the agave develops.
The agave plant may resemble a cactus, but it is not one. Its long leaves can reach two meters or more, surrounding the large central heart, or piña, which is harvested and cooked to provide the fermentable sugars used to produce tequila.
After extended maturation, Selección Suprema emerges with an elegant amber hue and an expressive aromatic profile.
The nose reveals abundant floral notes, vanilla, toasted oak and hints of fresh bread and yeast. The long ageing period brings depth and maturity while retaining the distinctive character of the agave.
A refined Extra Añejo that demonstrates just how complex and sophisticated aged tequila can become.
