To mark the 20th anniversary of the Honduran cigar brand Flor de Copán, its first Gran Reserva edition was launched at the end of 2023. While the brand itself is “only” twenty years old, the cigar factory where it is produced is the oldest in the country. The factory was established in 1976 in the town of Santa Rosa de Copán, in western Honduras, by a group of tobacco growers, Tabacos Hondureños S.A.
On the cedar wood wrapper, a signature exterior feature associated with the brand, the word “Rosas” is embossed – symbolizing roses, a nod to the Mayan heritage of the region and the name of the brand’s hometown, Santa Rosa. It is also the name of the single vitola with which the cigar was launched. Another artistic element is seen at the head – a “pig tail” finish, rolled several times into a flower shape. The Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper stretches perfectly over a Nicaraguan binder and a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers, maintaining a mild to medium strength profile.
