The Liga Privada series (translated from Spanish as “Private Blend”) by Drew Estate from Estelí, Nicaragua, is a favorite among cigar enthusiasts, and rightfully so. Just recall the flagship cigar, Liga Privada No. 9 from 2007, which remains one of the most sought-after cigars in the world today.
To achieve that coveted blend, countless attempts were made with various combinations of filler, shape, and size. Some were stunning, but they couldn’t be turned into a regular production line due to the limited availability of tobacco. Then, in 2009, Drew Estate had a brilliant idea and launched the Liga Privada Unico Serie—a limited yet ongoing edition of cigars in different vitolas and blends derived from those attempts.
The Nasty Fritas cigar in this series features a mini-torpedo vitola, a shape once used in the brand’s long-standing Acid series. However, this time, in addition to the signature “pigtail” cap, the cigar also boasts a closed foot. The tobacco sources closely resemble those of Liga Privada No. 9—a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper (from the United States) in an oscuro shade, a Brazilian Mata Fina binder, and a filler blend from Honduras and Nicaragua.
