A Timeless Investment: The Jaguar XK120
About ten years ago, David Lorenz was stuck in traffic when his vintage Jaguar XK120 suddenly broke down during a morning drive. After towing the car to a workshop and fixing it, he realized this was not a long-term solution. As a passionate fan of classic British cars, he knew that skilled craftsmen who can tune carburetors were becoming rare. Soon, they might disappear altogether. This means owners of stunning XK120s, like the one pictured, would struggle to maintain and drive their cars in a way that respects their timeless beauty.
The next step took several years. In 2018, Lorenz founded Lunaz Design, a workshop located next to the Silverstone racing circuit in England. At the dawn of the electric car revolution, Lunaz gathered a team of 150 experts. They developed modular electric powertrains that fit the chassis of British luxury cars — Jaguars, Bentleys, Rolls-Royces, Aston Martins, Land Rovers, and more.
Lunaz equips these cars with battery packs of 72 or 117 kWh capacity. This provides an impressive driving range of up to 400 km or more. Moreover, the batteries support fast charging at public stations. The workshop currently electrifies two Jaguar models — the iconic E-Type and the equally revered XK120. Each car undergoes a hyper-detailed restoration, including upgrades to steering, brakes, and shock absorbers. Thanks to the electric conversion, these classics gain new life. They can run cleanly for many more years without harming the planet.
Bottom line: For young couples tired of fiddling with carburetors, this is the future of classic driving.
Price: Electric conversion and full restoration cost about £375,000. The original car’s value is around £100,000.
The car receives a hyper-detailed restoration, which improves steering, braking, and suspension systems. It also gets an electric powertrain that provides a driving range of up to 400 km or more.
