Carroll Shelby was a hot-tempered Texan automotive designer and race car driver, with a vision to strengthen the newly introduced Ford Mustang. The Cobra Mustang models he created would eventually become highly sought after. However, by the late 1960s, the competition was starting to close the performance gap, and Shelby needed to take action. He took Ford’s new engine, performed a series of extensive upgrades, and boosted the original power output from 335 to 440 horsepower. The brakes were reinforced, as was the suspension system, to ensure the car could handle the additional power. The model was given the shortened name ‘KR’ – standing for ‘King of the Road,’ and rightly so. Price: approximately $150,000.
