Montblanc Star Legacy Suspended Exo Tourbillon Limited Edition
Montblanc has been adopting Minerva’s calibers for some time, one of the oldest in the caliber manufacturing industry. Founded in the mid-19th century, it recently returned to the spotlight as ETA decided to reduce the supply of calibers to the industry. This decision led many watchmakers to either produce their calibers or find new suppliers, thus bringing Minerva to serve Montblanc. The connection between the two created a whole celebration in Montblanc’s Star family, with a complete line of renewed products, and this watch is the cherry on top and a demonstration of the caliber manufacturer’s and Montblanc’s capabilities. It showcases classic and traditional watchmaking mastery, while also incorporating some technological innovation.
At the forefront of innovation stands a patent in the form of an external hanging tourbillon, rather than an internal one – a complexity developed over three years at Montblanc’s headquarters by a team of seasoned watchmakers. The idea was to develop a tourbillon with a 60-second cycle that would be more visible and exposed to the eye, so that it could be seen better. Its position allows the use of a balance wheel with a larger diameter than usual, which is impressive, and at the same time, to maintain a reasonable diameter of the caliber itself, which no longer needs to wrap the tourbillon that “floats” about three millimeters above the board.
The watch is produced in a limited edition of 58 units. It has a red gold case, 44.8mm in diameter, and a black leather strap. The manually wound caliber has a power reserve of 50 hours.
Bottom line: a captivating float
