La Galera 1936 Box-Pressed
For many years, the Dominican company Tabacalera Palma, owned by José “Jochy” Blanco, was best known for producing cigars for private-label brands. With the introduction of the La Galera line—named after the cigar rolling room—Blanco stepped out from behind the scenes to establish a signature brand of his own.
The La Galera 1936 Box-Pressed series commemorates the year the factory first opened its doors. Its name reflects the company’s commitment to preserving traditional cigar-making methods despite the many innovations that have transformed the industry over the decades.
This blend showcases carefully selected premium tobaccos: the filler consists of Dominican Criollo ’98 and Piloto Cubano leaves, complemented by a Dominican Piloto Cubano binder. The wrapper is a rich, oily Ecuadorian Habano, lending the cigar a complex profile highlighted by subtle sweetness and refined spice.
Presented in the popular Toro vitola, this premium cigar is known within the factory as “El Lector”—a tribute to the reader who traditionally entertained and educated rollers in the galera. Medium-to-full-bodied, it delivers a harmonious combination of cedar, leather, earth, and pepper, supported by secondary notes of cream, nuts, and gentle spice. Expertly constructed, it is offered in an elegant black box containing 21 cigars.
