You may not have heard of the Rimac brand, and that’s perfectly fine. They are based in Croatia and have been manufacturing extremely powerful electric cars since 2013. Why twice “extremely”? Because every car with more than a thousand horsepower comes with it.
The concept of Rimac is a two-seat sports car with a total output of 1,073 horsepower or 800KW, producing 160 kg/m (like ten engines of a regular family car). It will reach 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and is electronically limited to 355 km/h – which is quite fast.
Like in other similar cars, each wheel has its own motor that provides power, while all four motors are controlled by a management system that transfers power where it’s needed, and also assists in turns and in braking or both together. The power comes from a unique lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt oxide battery that provides a range of 500 km.
The chassis and body are made of carbon fiber, so its weight is reasonable but not very low – 1,850 kg. The driver’s cabin is very luxurious and includes custom leather upholstery, and parts of the dashboard are handcrafted, like in luxury watches.
From the beginning of 2013 until the end of 2014, the Rimac Concept One was the fastest electric car in the world, a fact that earned it the title of “first electric supercar.” And as is customary in luxury worlds, it is produced in limited quantities – no more than 88 units per year.
Bottom line: a luxurious power showcase.
