J.C. Newman Diamond Crown Maximus
Several years before J.C. Newman celebrated its centennial, Stanford Newman joined forces with Carlos Fuente Sr. to create an ultra-premium cigar line free from the production limitations that typically influence blend design. To accommodate as many as seven different tobaccos, they selected a 54-ring gauge—at a time when a 52-ring gauge was already considered large. Every cigar undergoes three quality inspections, is aged for about one year before release, and is handcrafted at A. Fuente y Cia under the supervision of the Fuente family, with production entrusted exclusively to their most experienced rollers.
With the Maximus, the concept evolved even further. The partnership with the Oliva family introduced a rich Ecuador Sungrown wrapper from the El Bajo region, covering a confidential Dominican filler aged for approximately five years and a Dominican binder.
The Double Belicoso No. 10 begins with a sharply tapered head that concentrates the draw and intensifies the opening flavors. Full-bodied strength emerges almost immediately, while the burn remains remarkably consistent throughout the smoke. The transitions between the thirds are smooth and engaging, maintaining excellent balance from start to finish. The flavor profile revolves around roasted coffee beans and black pepper, demonstrating how a premium Sungrown wrapper can successfully lead a complex blend while preserving precision and elegance.
