Nestled near the banks of the mighty Mekong River, Ao Yun Winery spans 277 dunams (approximately 68 acres) of vineyards divided into 314 individual plots. Owned by the global luxury conglomerate LVMH, the estate produces ultra-premium wines that have earned international recognition. While there is no official classification for this level of quality, experts agree that Ao Yun belongs among the world’s elite wineries, with exceptional craftsmanship, critical acclaim, and long waiting lists for its limited releases.

The vineyards are spread across four villages situated at different elevations, where six distinct local dialects are spoken. This remarkable diversity, combined with unique microclimates, enables the winery to craft wines that are elegant, fresh, balanced, and full of character. Winemaker Maxence Dulou believes that the vineyards’ exceptional terroir will continue to shape the winery’s distinctive style for years to come.

Ao Yun is located on the Chinese side of the Himalayas, in Yunnan Province, not far from the city of Shangri-La. Its vineyards lie at elevations ranging from 2,000 to 2,600 meters (6,560–8,530 feet) above sea level, where predominantly red grape varieties are cultivated. The combination of high altitude, mineral-rich soils, climate, and seasonal rainfall gives the vines unique characteristics that are clearly reflected in the wines’ aromas, structure, and complexity.
