In 1937, the Maserati brothers sold their shares in the family-owned automobile company but remained to assist the new management. However, as true racing enthusiasts, the three brothers found it impossible to stay away from the track. In 1947, they founded OSCA—an acronym for “Officine Specializzate Costruzione Automobili” (Specialized Workshop for Automobile Manufacturing)—and introduced the MT4, featuring a tubular chassis, lightweight bodywork, and a 1,100cc Fiat engine.
It didn’t take long for their relentless pursuit of performance to lead them to bore out the engine to 1,340cc and equip it with a dual overhead camshaft, allowing for higher revs. Only 74 examples were ever produced.
Price: $1.5 million.
