1927 Bugatti Type 37: A True Racing Legend

Iconic Design, Instantly Recognizable

The 1927 Bugatti Type 37 is more than just a vintage car. It’s a symbol of timeless elegance and racing history. With its deep French Blue body and long aerodynamic silhouette, this model is instantly recognizable. Even with eyes half-closed, any classic car lover can spot a Bugatti.

Born to Improve a Giant

Bugatti introduced the Type 37 to fix what the powerful Type 35 lacked. The 35 had an eight-cylinder engine but was heavier and harder to maintain. In contrast, the Type 37 was lighter, smaller, and easier to handle. Introduced in 1927, it quickly gained popularity on the racetrack.

Built for Speed and Simplicity

The car weighed only 700 kilograms (1,543 lbs). Thanks to its low center of gravity and upgraded brakes, it handled tight corners with ease. These upgrades helped it win legendary races like the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Later, Bugatti also released the 37A, a supercharged version producing around 80 horsepower.

A Fully Restored Original – Not a Replica

This exact model was fully restored in the 1960s. The restoration included a rebuild of its 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine, which produces 60 horsepower at 4,500 rpm. Over time, it changed owners several times. Eventually, it was displayed in the Caramulo Museum in Portugal.

Today, it features classic leather hood straps, a charming rear-mounted spare wheel, and beautiful gold wire-spoke wheels. The small windshield protects the driver from wind and rain. Inside, the dashboard is simple, just like a real racing car should be. There is no trunk space. After all, this is a car built for speed—not for luggage.

Price Reflects Authenticity

Replicas of the Type 37 can be found for under $100,000. However, this is not a replica. It is an authentic, original Bugatti. That’s why its price reflects its history and rarity: $800,000.

Final Thoughts: A Moving Piece of Art

The 1927 Bugatti Type 37 is not just a car. It is a moving sculpture, a masterpiece of engineering, and a tribute to one of the most exciting eras in motorsports. This Bugatti isn’t about convenience—it’s about passion, heritage, and pure driving joy.
