The Henderson motorcycle factory was acquired in 1911 by Ignaz Schwinn, the brand that still manufactures bicycles today. The “Four” is a rare model, considered a superb motorcycle in its time. The 1.3-liter engine produced 40 horsepower and exceptionally high torque. It was capable of reaching speeds of up to 80 miles per hour in third gear and up to 100 miles per hour. The Henderson was faster than many motorcycles and cars of its era, making it a natural choice for law enforcement.
In 1931, the last year of production, the factory closed due to the Great Depression in America. One of the enthusiastic fans of the Henderson Four is the television host Jay Leno, who owns such a motorcycle. The motorcycle presented here was recently sold for $95,000.
