The Fastest Bentley: R-Type Continental, 1952

Rolls-Royce engineer Ivan Evernden was asked to design a sporty yet luxurious car for Bentley. He made sure the car combined high performance with top-tier elegance. The Bentley reached a top speed of 190 km/h (118 mph), making it the fastest four-seater car in the world at the time.

The R-Type Continental was the most luxurious model in the R-Type series. It had a larger 4.9-liter engine, replacing the original 4.6 liters. Priced at £6,928 when new, only 207 were made in three years, making it very rare.

Bentley shaped its aluminum body in Rolls-Royce’s wind tunnel to make it as aerodynamic as possible for the era. Today, collectors value this classic car at around $975,000.
