E. Guigal Château d’Ampuis, Rhône Valley, France
This beautifully preserved historic château overlooks the steep vineyards of the Rhône Valley, where vines are planted on dramatic, almost vertical slopes facing southeast. This orientation is essential, protecting the vineyards from the harsh northern winter winds while maximizing sun exposure throughout the growing season.

Inside the historic estate lies a state-of-the-art winery equipped with the latest winemaking technology, alongside its own cooperage where oak barrels are crafted locally. Although the winery itself is relatively young, it has remained under family ownership for three generations. In 1973, Philippe Guigal took over the family business, and since then the estate has expanded continuously. Today, its vineyards cover approximately 10,000 dunams (about 1,000 hectares), producing some of the Rhône Valley’s finest white, red, and rosé wines.

Guigal Saint-Joseph Lieu-dit 2016
The French term “Lieu-dit” on the label indicates that the wine originates from a specific, recognized vineyard site. This dry white wine is produced from old-vine Roussanne and Marsanne grapes, harvested during the outstanding 2016 vintage.
Because of the steep slopes, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand before undergoing careful sorting. Modern vinification begins in stainless-steel tanks and continues with maturation in locally crafted French oak barrels.
The result is a brilliant golden wine with subtle green reflections, offering remarkable body and elegance. Intensely aromatic, it reveals notes of dried wildflowers, citrus with thick green peel, and soft, beautifully balanced tannins. A serious wine, perfectly suited to an equally serious meal.
