Wine as a Mission

In Southern California, between San Diego and Los Angeles, lies the Temecula Valley wine region. The valley is bordered to the east by the Temescal Mountains and slopes gradually westward toward the Pacific Ocean. Viewed from above, the landscape resembles a patchwork of vineyards, punctuated by dozens of wineries that have transformed Temecula into one of Southern California’s most distinctive wine destinations.

Architecturally, Ponte Vineyard Inn evokes the Spanish missions that once dotted the Americas during the era of the Spanish Empire. Its impressive entrance features three arches, while behind the main façade rise two towers reminiscent of traditional mission bell towers.

The word misión — mission — historically referred to the religious purpose of the Spanish missionaries who established settlements throughout California. Yet their legacy also played an important role in the development of California wine: missionaries planted some of the region’s earliest vineyards to produce wine for religious and everyday use.

A Different Kind of Mission

At Ponte Vineyard Inn, the concept of a mission takes on an entirely different meaning.

According to the hotel, its mission is “to create unique wine country experiences through warm and genuine hospitality, thoughtful and attentive service, and carefully designed spaces that invite relaxation, connection and comfort.”

The property brings this philosophy to life through spacious rooms and suites overlooking vineyards planted just meters from the hotel windows.

Guests can also enjoy winery visits and tastings, guided tours through Temecula Valley, wine-focused dining experiences, live entertainment and other activities designed around the relaxed rhythm of California wine country.

The rooms are generously sized, and most feature private balconies overlooking either the surrounding countryside or the hotel’s interior courtyard, designed in the style of a traditional Spanish patio.

Amenities include a coffee station, high-speed Wi-Fi, 55-inch televisions, upgraded showers and thoughtful touches designed to make the stay especially comfortable. Suites also feature kitchenettes.

A Complete Temecula Wine Experience

Guests can book packages combining accommodation with experiences around the property and surrounding vineyards.

Depending on the package, these may include guided tours, wine tastings and breakfast or lunch at the hotel’s restaurants, along with a bottle of wine waiting in the room.

The result is a complete wine-country escape where vineyards, hospitality, food and the relaxed atmosphere of Southern California come together in one destination.
