If wineries were cast in science-fiction films, Bodegas Baigorri would undoubtedly be a leading star. Driving through the vineyards of Rioja Alavesa, it is almost impossible to miss the minimalist glass cube emerging from the landscape near the village of Samaniego.
But do not let its restrained appearance above ground deceive you. The winery is an architectural and technological iceberg, extending across seven underground levels to a depth of approximately 32 meters.

Bodegas Baigorri – A Winery Built Around Gravity
The concept behind Baigorri can be summed up in one word: gravity.
Architect Iñaki Aspiazu designed the winery so that the entire production process could progress naturally from the upper levels downward, minimizing the need for mechanical pumping that could potentially damage the grapes or expose the wine to unnecessary oxidation.
The grapes undergo meticulous selection on the upper levels before moving naturally downward through the different stages of production – from processing and fermentation to maturation in barrel.
This gravity-flow philosophy allows the fruit and wine to be handled as gently as possible, contributing to refined textures and remarkable precision of fruit.
Baigorri is modern in virtually every respect, yet its technological sophistication serves a traditional objective: allowing the vineyard and terroir to remain at the heart of the wine.

Baigorri de Garage – The Flagship Wine
Baigorri de Garage, the winery’s flagship red, is produced from carefully selected old-vine Tempranillo and represents the most ambitious expression of Baigorri’s winemaking philosophy.
This is a wine designed to make an impression.
Its color is an intense, almost black crimson, with brilliant cherry-red reflections around the rim.
The bouquet offers mesmerizing complexity. It begins with intense aromas of dark berries – particularly blueberries and blackcurrants – before revealing layers of plum preserve, licorice, subtle toasted notes and a mineral character reminiscent of graphite.

The first impression on the palate can be summed up in a single word: “Wow.”
Baigorri de Garage is full-bodied and firmly structured, yet the tannins are remarkably polished, creating an almost silky sensation despite the wine’s considerable power.
