The American company Bollinger was founded in 2014 with the goal of creating something that, surprisingly, no one else has managed to create properly: an all-electric off-road vehicle. Not a dirt-road or leisure vehicle, but a real off-road vehicle. The company defines the B1 as “the world’s first all-electric off-road vehicle,” which is exotic in itself, and even more fascinating when you realize that the customization options here are simply limitless.
The vehicle is entirely made of aluminum, painted in matte gray, with the wheel rims painted in black. The ground clearance is quite generous – 25 cm. The suspensions are independent at all four corners, and the travel range of each suspension is ten inches (25.4 cm). The tire size is 285/70R17. The electric motor produces 360 horsepower, accelerating the electric off-road vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds – reasonable given that the peak torque, around 44 kgm, is available from 0 rpm.
Like many other electric vehicles, this vehicle is also equipped with two electric motors, sitting on the front and rear axles and powered by a lithium-ion battery that allows for a range of about 350 km in economy mode or about 200 km in full power mode.
The Bollinger B1 is intentionally Spartan in appearance, but that’s just on the outside; inside, there are black leather seats, an energy meter, rubber floor mats, aluminum CNC-finished switches and buttons, and as mentioned, many options for customization.
Bottom line: maximum minimalism.
