In 1969, the astronaut Buzz Aldrin became the second person to set foot on the moon. In 1958, while stationed in Germany during his service as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force, Aldrin purchased for himself a small and nimble British roadster – an Austin Healey. With this car, he explored Europe during his free time. Two years later, he began studying space exploration at MIT, where he developed a system for docking manned spacecraft in space. The Austin Healey accompanied him to MIT, serving as his vehicle until he was recruited into the space program.
The Austin Healey Sprite was produced from 1958 to 1971 and gained popularity for its distinctive headlights in the first generation. It featured a 950cc engine with a modest output of only 43 horsepower. Despite the humble power, its performance was noteworthy due to the innovative use of a unified chassis, where the body and frame formed a single unit, contributing to a lightweight design. The price was approximately $45,000.
