When Art Meets Wine – Castello di Ama
In the heart of Tuscany’s Chianti Classico region lies Castello di Ama – a place where history feels remarkably contemporary. More than simply a winery, it offers a multisensory experience combining art, nature and fine winemaking.
Set within a historic hamlet whose roots stretch back centuries, Castello di Ama has preserved the authentic rural character of the Tuscan countryside while embracing innovation and modern winemaking techniques. This combination has helped establish it as one of the most highly regarded estates in the region.
What makes Castello di Ama particularly distinctive, however, is not only the quality of its wines but also its extraordinary relationship with contemporary art.
Internationally acclaimed artists have been invited to create site-specific works for the estate, integrating their art with the landscape, architecture, cellars and historic buildings. The result is an exceptional dialogue between wine and contemporary culture, transforming the estate into a living gallery surrounded by vineyards.

A Contemporary Art Collection Among the Vines
Among the prominent artists represented at Castello di Ama is Polish sculptor Mirosław Bałka, whose work Red Nerve was installed at the estate in 2019.
American artist Roni Horn created Ca’ d’Oro for Castello di Ama, while other internationally renowned artists whose works form part of the estate’s contemporary art project include Hiroshi Sugimoto, Cristina Iglesias, Anish Kapoor and Daniel Buren.
Rather than functioning as a conventional museum collection, the artworks have been conceived specifically for their locations. They interact with centuries-old architecture, wine cellars, gardens and the surrounding Tuscan landscape, making art an integral part of the experience of visiting Castello di Ama.

L’Apparita – A Tuscan Merlot Icon
Another defining characteristic of Castello di Ama is its focus on individual vineyard sites and the expression of their distinctive terroirs.
Among the estate’s most celebrated wines is L’Apparita, an exceptional 100% Merlot that has become one of Tuscany’s iconic expressions of the variety.
Complex, elegant and powerful, L’Apparita immediately impresses with its deep color and rich aromas of dark berries and ripe plums, accompanied by subtle notes of vanilla and tobacco.
On the palate, the wine reveals a full-bodied structure, polished tannins and beautifully balanced acidity. Layers of black cherry and dark chocolate mingle with hints of sweet spice before developing into a long, persistent and memorable finish.
L’Apparita is more than an impressive Tuscan Merlot. It is a wine that tells a story – of soil, passion, craftsmanship and tradition – while capturing the distinctive spirit of Tuscany in every glass.
