Château Haut-Brion, Bordeaux’s legendary First Growth, its historic Pessac-Léognan terroir, iconic wines and exceptional aging potential.

Château Haut-Brion is one of the most influential wine estates in Bordeaux and the only one of the five First Growths not located in the Médoc. Instead, it lies in Pessac-Léognan, in the historic Graves region.

Its documented history dates back to the 16th century, and Haut-Brion played a pioneering role in the development of what became known as the “New French Claret” – a richer, more structured style of Bordeaux red wine capable of aging gracefully over many years.

The estate enjoys a remarkable location on the outskirts of Bordeaux, set on elevated terraces covered with gravel and pebbles. These well-drained soils, combined with the region’s temperate climate, create an exceptional terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the principal grape varieties used in the estate’s red wines.

The celebrated English philosopher John Locke wrote about Haut-Brion in the 17th century, evidence of the international recognition the estate had already achieved centuries ago. Today, Château Haut-Brion is owned by the family of Prince Robert of Luxembourg and continues to preserve its extraordinary heritage and prestigious reputation.

The pinnacle of the estate’s production is its flagship red wine, Château Haut-Brion Premier Grand Cru Classé. Produced primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with Cabernet Franc also playing an important role depending on the vintage, the wine is renowned for its exceptional complexity, concentration and elegance.

Its distinctive aromatic profile can reveal layers of dark berries, tobacco, leather, earth, smoke and subtle mineral notes, complemented by a remarkably refined, velvety texture.

Château Haut-Brion is also celebrated for its extraordinary longevity. The finest vintages can evolve beautifully in bottle for many decades, developing ever greater complexity and finesse with age.

Vintages such as 1989, 2005, and 2009 are considered particularly outstanding and remain highly sought after by collectors and fine-wine enthusiasts worldwide.
