Rather than routinely selling its Grand Vin as a futures release shortly after the harvest, the château holds back its wines and releases them when it considers them sufficiently mature, sometimes many years after the vintage.
The philosophy allows collectors and wine enthusiasts to acquire Château Latour wines with considerably more bottle age than is typical for newly released Bordeaux.
Grand Vin de Château Latour
The estate’s most celebrated wine, and the pinnacle of its production, is the Grand Vin de Château Latour Premier Grand Cru Classé.
The Grand Vin is based predominantly on Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by smaller proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, depending on the characteristics of each vintage.
It is renowned for its formidable structure, extraordinary aromatic complexity and remarkable capacity for long-term aging. The finest vintages can evolve gracefully in the bottle for several decades, developing layers of complexity while retaining the power and character for which Latour is famous.
Exceptional years such as 2005 and 2009 have produced some of the estate’s most highly regarded modern wines, with bottles eagerly sought after by collectors around the world and commanding extraordinary prices on the fine-wine market.
