Mercedes-Benz 300 Sc Roadster, 1956
The term roadster is usually reserved for small, nimble, two-seat sports cars. At 4.70 meters in length, this open-top Mercedes is anything but lightweight, yet its three-liter inline six-cylinder engine gives it impressive long-distance cruising ability.
Only 53 examples of this distinctive model were produced, as part of Mercedes-Benz’s effort to establish itself as a manufacturer of highly desirable premium automobiles. The 300 Sc was among the earliest members of Mercedes’ prestigious S-Class lineage, and in 1955 it became one of the first models to feature mechanical fuel injection.
The cabin is trimmed in dark brown leather, accented by wood veneers and chrome details. A four-speed transmission operated via a column-mounted shifter provides relaxed and comfortable cruising on the highways that were beginning to emerge across Europe at the time.
