A Monumental Entrance to a Lakefront Wine Sanctuary
Framed by an elegant archway inspired by Greco-Roman architecture, and crowned by a striking 12-story bell tower, the entrance to Mission Hill Winery is nothing short of majestic. As you step through, four deep-toned bells chime from above, welcoming guests to a sanctuary of wine on the edge of the breathtaking Lake Okanagan—a vast, deep-blue expanse in summer, shimmering white in winter.
With over 270 kilometers of shoreline, the lake acts as a miniature inland sea. It’s more than a scenic backdrop—it plays a vital role in shaping the local terroir. The lake regulates temperature, adds humidity, and breathes life into the surrounding green vineyards. It’s as much a partner in winemaking as the people who work the land.
A Modern Family Estate Rooted in Community
Though relatively young by global standards, Mission Hill was established in 1966 and has since become a cornerstone of Canadian viticulture. Visionary founder Anthony von Mandl created a Family Estate that seamlessly blends modern architecture, sustainable farming, and local partnerships.
Rather than operating in isolation, Mission Hill collaborates with 32 local grape growers—each with certified vineyards and long-standing ties to the land. This network strengthens the winery’s connection to the region, turning a family-owned estate into a community-driven success.
The winemaking team is led by CEO and head winemaker Darryl Brooker, who works alongside world-renowned consultant Michel Rolland—famed for his influence on prestigious wineries worldwide, including Israel’s Amphorae Winery.
At the Peak: Legacy in a Glass
Mission Hill’s crown jewel is the Legacy Collection, a lineup of age-worthy, limited-production wines that showcase the estate’s highest standards. Leading the collection is the celebrated Mission Hill Oculus 2013—a bold, structured red blend inspired by the Bordeaux tradition.

Crafted from Merlot (51%), Cabernet Sauvignon (23%), Cabernet Franc (22%), and Petit Verdot, Oculus presents a deep ruby hue with notes of ripe red and black berries, crushed black pepper, and subtle smoke. The finish is long, defined, and memorable—a wine that speaks of place, patience, and precision.
Final Note: A Family Vision, A Regional Legacy
Mission Hill is more than a winery—it’s a family estate that shares its success with its neighbors. With bold architecture, deep respect for nature, and an unwavering focus on quality, it stands as a symbol of modern Canadian winemaking rooted in tradition.
