Casa de Campo is an exclusive resort featuring luxury suites and private villas, located near La Romana, at the southeastern tip of the Dominican Republic along the Caribbean Sea. The resort offers luxurious accommodations as well as facilities for tennis, polo, sporting clays, and of course—the renowned Teeth of the Dog golf course. This course is considered the best in the Caribbean and is the only one in the Americas, outside the United States, to rank among the top courses in the world. The course is named for the winding shape of the cliff on which it is built, adjacent to a bay that extends into the Caribbean Sea, resembling a dog’s tooth.
Designed by the renowned American golf course architect Pete Dye, who crafted some of the most famous and esteemed courses in the U.S. during the 1960s and 1970s, the course is carved into the rugged cliffs above the sea, amidst rocks and coral. It creates a lush green landscape that combines challenging bunkers with stunning views. Dye famously claimed that he designed 11 of the holes himself, while “God created the other seven.” The course opened in 1971 and quickly earned a reputation as one of the best in the world. Recently, it has also been recognized as a “must-visit” destination in Central American golf tourism.

Dye also designed two additional golf courses on the property, which, while less challenging, are still of world-class caliber and suitable for golf training for beginners and instructional purposes. These options allow the resort to offer golf packages for all skill levels: beginners, high-level amateurs, and professionals. Private golf lessons are also available for players of all abilities.
In addition, the resort offers a range of water sports and various other athletic activities. It’s highly recommended to explore the area, especially the Altos de Chavón—a Mediterranean-style village from the 16th century located in La Romana.
Bottom Line: A must-visit destination for a golf vacation.
