The Welsh are very proud of their whiskey. The Penderyn Distillery, although modern, was built on the ruins of a 19th-century building. It created a new Welsh whiskey, which was born in 2000 and released to the market only in 2008. The distillery, an integral part of the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales, uses the crystal-clear waters from the streams of the park. Since water, as is well known, is a key ingredient in the whiskey production process, it is essential that it be both clear and of high quality.
When the distillery launched its first whiskey for the international market at the park, the guest of honor at the event was Prince Charles, now King Charles III. During the launch event, the Prince declared that he only drinks Welsh whiskey. The honor continues to shine on the distillery.

The whiskey: Penderyn Tawny Port Single Cask Single Malt Welsh Whisky. This is a whiskey that spent a significant amount of time (exact duration unspecified) in old port wine casks, which are considered particularly fine. Accordingly, its aromas and flavors reflect this. Well-defined, thanks to its high alcohol content (61%), and the fruity notes of the port wine that remained in the cask. It has a solid body, full of spices, including vanilla, honey, and cinnamon. Upon pouring, it opens up and becomes smoother. A delightful whiskey. Average price: 235 euros.
