Perched on the slopes of the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 3,111 meters (10,207 feet), Bodega Colomé cultivates vineyards and produces exceptional wines, most notably Malbec—a grape variety that originated in southwestern France and found its ultimate expression in Argentina.

Bodega Colomé, Argentina

Founded in 1831, Bodega Colomé is the oldest winery in Argentina and is widely regarded as one of the world’s pioneers in high-altitude viticulture. Its vineyards, planted at some of the highest elevations on Earth, have transformed Malbec into Argentina’s signature grape, producing wines of remarkable concentration, elegance, and character.

The estate’s vineyards are rooted in mineral-rich soils composed of limestone, granite, and traces of copper ore. They are nourished by pure meltwater descending from the towering Andes. The climate is defined by warm, sun-filled days and exceptionally cold nights, creating ideal conditions for slow, balanced grape ripening. Adjacent to the winery is a boutique luxury hotel with an acclaimed restaurant, where guests can experience the estate’s wines alongside regional cuisine.

Tasting Note – Colomé Altura Máxima Malbec

Colomé Altura Máxima Malbec represents Malbec at its finest. At this extraordinary elevation, the vines benefit from intense sunlight, abundant mountain water, and exceptionally mineral-rich soils, producing a wine of outstanding depth and structure. Brilliant crimson in color, it reveals vibrant aromas of red berries, wild strawberries, and hints of orange peel. Rich, layered, and beautifully complex, it delivers remarkable aromatic intensity and a long, precise finish. A wine that naturally calls for a fine cut of grilled meat.

Recommended serving temperature: 16°C (61°F).
