The Tucker brand was unique in the American automotive scene. A horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine, independent suspension for each wheel, automatic transmission, and innovations that placed Preston Thomas Tucker’s vehicles at the forefront of avant-garde design in the late 1940s. The car in the photo is one of the 51 units produced. In 1951, it was delivered to ‘Smiling Charlie’ (a well-known gangster from Colorado) as collateral for the purchase of a mansion and a discreet residence in the city of Denver. The car has a documented and continuous history, culminating in its recent sale at auction for a staggering $1.56 million.
