Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster 1958
Fewer than 2,000 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadsters were produced between 1957 and 1963, making it one of the most coveted and admired automobiles in the world of classic car collecting. The Roadster succeeded the legendary and highly desirable Gullwing model.
Many celebrities have owned and driven the 300 SL, including the legendary Argentine racing driver Juan Manuel Fangio. In 1958, Mercedes-Benz presented him with a blue 300 SL as a farewell gift upon his retirement from professional racing.
The example shown here was restored in 1995 by Eric Le Moine. Its most recent owner used it as a daily driver, refusing to let such an extraordinary machine sit hidden away in an underground garage. The fact that the 300 SL is not only beautiful but also remarkably usable has helped make it one of the most sought-after collector cars ever built.
Price of the car pictured: $1.38 million.
