V. Sattui Winery – Italian Spirit in Napa Valley

The story of V. Sattui Winery, located in St. Helena, is one of Napa Valley’s most remarkable tales of revival.

The winery was originally founded in San Francisco in 1885 by Italian immigrant Vittorio Sattui, but was forced to close during Prohibition. Nearly a century later, in 1976, Vittorio’s great-grandson Dario Sattui revived the family winemaking tradition by re-establishing V. Sattui in Napa Valley. Dario would later go on to create another of the region’s distinctive destinations, Castello di Amorosa.

One of V. Sattui’s defining characteristics is its direct-to-consumer philosophy. The winery has traditionally focused on selling its wines directly through the estate and its wine club rather than relying on conventional distribution through wine shops and restaurants.

This approach has helped create a loyal community around the winery while making a visit to St. Helena an integral part of the V. Sattui experience.

A Taste of Italy in Napa Valley

The atmosphere at V. Sattui feels very different from that of many other Napa Valley wineries. It is lively, relaxed and sociable, with something of the spirit of a traditional Italian village.

The rustic stone buildings are surrounded by expansive lawns, colorful flower beds and magnificent mature oak trees.

Rather than presenting wine tasting as a formal ritual, V. Sattui encourages visitors to enjoy wine as part of a broader experience built around food, friends and the outdoors.

It is precisely this relaxed combination that has made the estate one of St. Helena’s distinctive wine destinations.

Wine, Food and the Famous V. Sattui Deli

One of the winery’s major attractions is its extensive artisan deli and marketplace.

Visitors can choose from an impressive selection of cheeses, charcuterie, freshly prepared dishes, salads and other gourmet specialties before selecting a bottle of wine and heading outside.

The winery’s picnic grounds transform a traditional tasting-room visit into something much more leisurely: an afternoon of wine, food and conversation beneath the Napa Valley sun.

It is an uncomplicated concept, yet one that perfectly expresses the Italian idea that wine is best enjoyed around a table and in good company.

Paradiso – V. Sattui’s Prestige Wine

Among the winery’s prestige wines, Paradiso stands out as an ambitious Bordeaux-style blend based primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon.

This is a wine that rewards attention.

The bouquet reveals aromas of sweet blueberries, mocha, vanilla, tobacco leaf and toasted oak, creating a rich and inviting aromatic profile.

On the palate, Paradiso lives up to its evocative name, particularly for lovers of generous, full-flavored Napa Valley reds.

Layers of harmonious fruit are supported by beautifully integrated tannins, while the richness remains balanced rather than excessively heavy.

The finish is rounded, elegant and persistent, making the wine particularly well suited to rich meat dishes or mature cheeses.

Paradiso captures the personality of V. Sattui itself: generous, approachable and deeply rooted in the idea that great wine becomes even better when accompanied by good food and good company.
