Cohiba, as you probably already know, is a leading and well-known Cuban luxury cigar brand worldwide. Cohiba cigars are produced, in part, by the corporation Habanos S.A, owned by the Cuban government, which consolidates all cigar manufacturing facilities in the country. The roots of the Cohiba brand trace back to 1966. In that year, Cohiba cigars began to be produced for Fidel Castro and senior Cuban government officials, and the rest is history.
An interesting and unique collaboration between Habanos S.A and the Italian writing instrument manufacturer Omas gave birth to the Omas Cohiba pen, which is part of a limited edition collection of writing instruments by the company. The pen, as seen at a glance, is designed inspired by the legendary cigar. It is made of silver, rhodium, and Ziricote wood, just like the brand’s original cigars.
As a tribute to the founding year of Cohiba, the pen is created in a limited edition of 1,966 units – a thousand of them in a fountain pen version and 966 rollerball pens. In addition to these, the collection is enriched with 56 additional pens, made from a combination of 18-carat yellow gold and Ziricote wood. Forty of them are fountain pens (where the ink is held in the pen barrel and “injected” into it through a rotating mechanism – a mechanism that ensures a larger ink capacity and reduces the frequency of refilling or replacing ink cartridges), and 16 are rollerballs.
The pens in the Omas Cohiba series come in a storage box made of cedar wood, which can also be used for storing cigars, and for this purpose, it includes a humidity gauge for maintaining ultimate moisture levels. The price of the pen starts at 1,700 euros.
