Fernando Bacardi, the young visionary, discovered their sugar cane and molasses (treacle) in 1830 and recognized their potential. He began rum production in Cuba, and over the years, the Bacardi family moved its operation from the factory to Puerto Rico in the Caribbean.
The distillery, Casa Bacardi, is a massive and impressive facility located near the town of Catano on the ocean shore. It produces a successful blend of rum at various ages, ranging from seven to 23 years, aged in barrels, with a single distillation in a copper still. All the aromas and flavors meld into the beverage during its aging in the old whisky or sherry casks.
The rum has a deep dark brown color, almost sweet, with rich sherry wine, vanilla, caramel, pineapple, coconut, and even cocoa notes. It encompasses a multitude of flavors, depending on the temperature at which the drink is served, whether neat or on the rocks.
