Scripts of the Ottoman Empire
Graf von Faber-Castell unveils its Pen of the Year 2024, a luxurious writing instrument inspired by Turquerie—the European artistic fascination with Ottoman culture that flourished between the 16th and 18th centuries. This aesthetic movement celebrated the opulence, artistry, and refined cultural identity of the Ottoman Empire.
The collection, comprising 315 fountain pens and 85 rollerball pens, was designed by Serdar Gülgün, a leading expert in Ottoman art and history, ensuring both authenticity and artistic depth.
The pen’s body, cap, and grip are adorned with a traditional chevron pattern—a zigzag motif reminiscent of inverted “V” shapes—enhanced by intricate decorative lacquer inlays. Its metal components are platinum-plated and set with 18 precious rubies, adding both brilliance and symbolic richness.

Design elements such as tassels, crescents, and the dome of an Ottoman tent further evoke the imperial aesthetic. At the base of the cap, an engraved turtle appears—a historic symbol of luck and prosperity within Ottoman culture.
Each pen in the series is individually numbered and presented in a polished black wooden box, accompanied by a dedicated case designed to hold additional writing instruments.
Price: approximately €5,500
