The man behind AP Limited Editions is Anuj Poddar, an Indian-born collector of pens and art whose personal journey has crossed continents.
After studying in England, Poddar was exposed to London’s vibrant art scene before moving to the United States, where he became involved with the American community of passionate pen collectors.
Following several years of exploring and researching the world of fine writing instruments, he founded AP Limited Editions in 2006. Since then, the company has specialized in distinctive, artistically elaborate pens produced in highly limited editions.
A Limited Edition of Just Nine Pens
The Maki-e The Writer Black Gold with Flowers, pictured here, is an exceptionally rare creation, with only nine pieces produced.
Its design is dominated by dramatic shades of black and gold, complemented by an intricate floral decoration created using the traditional Japanese Maki-e technique.
Maki-e is a centuries-old decorative art in which gold powder is applied to lacquer derived from the Japanese urushi tree. The surface then undergoes repeated stages of polishing, gradually revealing the depth, brilliance and extraordinary detail of the finished design.
The technique requires exceptional precision and patience, transforming each writing instrument into a miniature work of Japanese decorative art.
Black, Gold and Flowers
The contrast between the deep black surface and shimmering gold creates a striking backdrop for the floral motif. Gold powder is also incorporated into the pen’s clip, extending the decorative theme across the entire writing instrument.
