Asean Lady, an extraordinary luxury yacht inspired by traditional Prao boats, with a 10,000-nautical-mile range and space for 22 guests.

A Traditional Design Reimagined

This is a yacht that is almost impossible to miss. The design of Asean Lady draws inspiration from traditional Prao vessels, which for centuries were used by seafarers in Malaysia and other parts of the Pacific.

The basic principle involves adding an outrigger to one side of the main hull. In some traditional vessels this consists simply of an extended supporting structure, while in others a smaller parallel hull is attached to improve stability. The result is an asymmetrical yet remarkably stable vessel capable of coping with challenging ocean conditions.

The Prao influence is immediately apparent aboard Asean Lady, but here the traditional concept has been interpreted on a dramatically larger scale. Instead of a simple connecting structure between the main hull and outrigger, the yacht features an imposing three-level superstructure, giving it the appearance of a small floating building.

The design may not appeal to everyone, but there is no denying its distinctive character.

Powered by two Caterpillar engines, Asean Lady can reach a top speed of approximately 15 knots, with a cruising speed of around 12 knots. More impressive is its exceptional range of approximately 10,000 nautical miles, giving the yacht genuine long-distance cruising capability.

Luxury on a Grand Scale

The interior is every bit as distinctive as the yacht’s exterior. Designed by Annie Chang, sister of businessman Brian Chang, the spaces are conceived around traditional luxury and generous proportions.

Among the highlights are an expansive dining room, a fully equipped bar and a dramatic staircase reminiscent of the grandeur of a European opera house. Mahogany finishes, marble surfaces and richly appointed guest cabins reinforce the yacht’s opulent atmosphere.

Asean Lady can accommodate as many as 22 guests in luxurious cabins, while a crew of up to 18 looks after the yacht and its guests.

The yacht has been associated with Malaysian businessman Vincent Tan, founder of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, and Brian Chang, a prominent figure in the Asian maritime and offshore industries.

Based in Singapore, Asean Lady has been valued at approximately $35 million, while its annual operating costs have been estimated at around $3 million. Various reports have indicated that the yacht has been offered for sale at a price below its estimated market value.
