A Classic Tribute to the Spirit of the American West

Rooted in the cultural traditions of the American West, where bars served as gathering places at the end of the workday for cigars, conversation, drinks, and live music, Churchill Bar pays homage to Colorado’s timeless bar culture.

Located within the iconic Brown Palace Hotel, one of America’s grand historic landmarks, the lounge carries over 130 years of legacy. At the time of its construction, the hotel was the tallest building in Denver, featured one of the world’s first atriums, and was among the earliest fireproof structures. Over the decades, it has hosted world leaders, celebrities, and distinguished guests visiting the city.

The Brown Palace’s cigar lounge is considered one of Denver’s premier cigar destinations. It offers an extensive selection of premium spirits, including rare and aged whiskies, port and sherry wines, and an impressive collection of fine liquors—among them collectible cognac bottles.

A well-known meeting point for business leaders and politicians, the lounge is located on the hotel’s ground floor, in what was once the main entrance where horse-drawn carriages would arrive.

The cigar menu is meticulously organized by body, wrapper, filler, and ring gauge, featuring a wide range of vitolas such as Figurados, Coronas, Robustos—and of course, Churchills. Premium brands include Romeo y Julieta, Ashton, Cohiba, and Rocky Patel.

The atmosphere is unmistakably old-school and masculine. Leather chairs, brass-trimmed sofas, and a dark solid wood bar create a rich, classic setting. One wall showcases a monumental painting, “The Dream of the Sultan,” by Italian artist Virgilio Tojetti, commissioned for the hotel’s opening. Wall-to-wall carpeting and richly patterned wallpapers reinforce the timeless American elegance.

A large humidor spans one wall and includes private lockers. Nearby, an elegant display case holds a cowboy hat that belonged to one of the lounge’s most loyal patrons, the late Mr. Boyce, who sat in the same seat every day since the bar first opened.
