Lounges in the Land of Watches.  Three Classic Cigar Spots in Switzerland

While in Europe—especially Western Europe—it is becoming increasingly difficult to find cigar clubs designed for social smoking, and the lounges that were once a hallmark of elegant European culture are turning into a rare institution, Switzerland remains an oasis for cigar lovers. Here, you can still find classic, old-school, luxurious cigar lounges—the kind we remember fondly. Here are three of them, in different parts of the country.

Storchen, Zurich

Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city, has been—since its earliest days, thanks to its location in the heart of Europe—a cultural and commercial hub. Even today, it remains a multicultural magnet.

Here, at the luxurious Storchen hotel (“Stork”), in the heart of the Old Town on the shores of Lake Zurich, you’ll find an intimate cigar bar overlooking the water. The ceiling is vaulted and wood-paneled; stained-glass windows decorated with aristocratic crests filter in soft light. Comfortable leather armchairs and sofas, in a more contemporary design, remind you that this is a cigar lounge—and not a castle. At the center is a broad wooden drinks bar and ornate wooden cabinets, housing humidors with around thirty cigar brands.

The hotel restaurant and bar are located right next to the lounge, so you can order food and drinks and enjoy them alongside your cigar. The alcohol menu includes rum, whisky, and cocktails. If you are hotel guests, you can ask the staff to store the cigars you brought from home in the humidor—at no extra charge.

And if you feel like indulging even more: take a 30-minute cruise on the lake, with champagne, oysters to nibble on, and two cigars, for 310 Swiss francs per person (minimum of four participants).

The House of Grauer, Geneva

Switzerland’s second-largest city, located where the Rhône River flows out of Lake Geneva, is one of Europe’s most important centers for tourism, diplomacy, and commerce. Geneva consistently ranks among the world’s leading cities for quality of life—and cost of living—so if you’re looking for a truly high-end cigar club, this is definitely the right address.

The House of Grauer, which includes a cigar shop and a smoking lounge, sits in the heart of Geneva’s business district and offers a refuge for closing a deal—or simply enjoying a pleasant break. The furnishings are stylish and elegant, with a calm, understated design. Leading artists and architects contributed to shaping the space, creating a refined venue that also pays meticulous attention to the smallest details.

The shop spans 600 square meters and features the largest humidor room in Europe. The designer cabinets store an impressive selection of premium cigars, including special editions and cigars intended for long aging. The place truly honors cigar culture, and the story behind every brand is part of what the staff is happy to share.

There is also a wine cellar, with outstanding champagnes and bottles from rare vintages, alongside a selection of luxury wines from around the world.

Further inside, the cigar lounge itself awaits—wood-paneled and furnished with light-colored leather armchairs. Classic ceiling fans and perfectly balanced humidity keep the cigars in top condition. On a walnut-wood counter, coffee machines offer fresh blends roasted on-site; behind it stands a liqueur bar. Seating areas are separated by wooden partitions or set into alcoves, allowing privacy for those who want it. The lounge design—retro, in warm wood tones and white—adds to the feeling of a timeless club.

From time to time, the venue hosts tasting evenings featuring leading and special cigar brands, with explanations and guidance. Naturally, each such evening includes a rich culinary accompaniment. It’s worth checking—your visit might coincide with one of these events.House of Grauer

Atlantis Bar, Pfäffikon (Zurich Canton)

The small town of Pfäffikon lies in the Canton of Zurich, on the shores of the lake that shares its name. This location has turned the town into a center for leisure, tourism, and sports. It’s completely natural to find a place like Atlantis Bar here—a venue that combines a dance club with a cigar lounge. A perfect recipe for the ultimate night out. The atmosphere is lively yet elegant; in the cigar room, soft music plays, and from time to time there are live performances that blend seamlessly with the dance hall next door.

The bar offers a wide range of alcoholic drinks, plenty of cocktails, and a selection of whisky and cognac tailored especially to different cigars—alongside small bar bites. The cigar list includes a broad range from Davidoff, a selection of Cuban brands such as Romeo y Julieta and Cohiba, as well as labels from other origins.

The smoking area is designed in a modern, luxurious, and elegant style. Airflow is sophisticated, and a powerful smoke-extraction system ensures a comfortable stay. Seating corners are divided by glass display cabinets showcasing wines from around the world. Fine wooden parquet flooring, comfortable leather and fabric armchairs in a sleek contemporary style, and warm lighting create a highly upscale, dignified atmosphere.
