After releasing a special edition dedicated to the founder of the luxury automotive brand, Enzo Ferrari, within Montblanc’s Great Characters collection, the two brands are now collaborating even more closely.
In November 2021, Ferrari launched the Daytona SP3, intended to be the model for 2023 and the latest addition to their Icona series. Immediately after the launch, Montblanc approached Ferrari’s chief designer, Flavio Manzoni, to lead a design project in a slightly different field – writing instruments. He accepted the challenge, and thus the Montblanc Ferrari Stilema SP3 Limited Edition 599 project was born.
The design of this new writing instrument unmistakably speaks the design language of the Ferrari brand, the “Prancing Horse”: the proportions, the volume, the outer surface, and even the aerodynamics. Beyond the exterior design, which is new and different in the world of Montblanc, the interior design boundaries familiar to the brand were also pushed: the ink filling mechanism, made of white gold, is hidden behind a semi-transparent red blade that “cuts” along the titanium body of the pen. Pulling the blade back reveals the filling mechanism. Thirty meticulous handcrafted stages were required to create the nib of the pen, made of 18-karat white gold and engraved with the model’s initials, SP3.
The Ferrari Stilema pens are offered in a limited edition of 599 units, just like the number of Daytona SP3 cars Ferrari will produce.
