The American soprano Maria Callas was one of the greatest in the history of opera. She made her debut before World War II, and in the years that followed, she was considered the most popular and important opera singer in the world. Therefore, it’s not surprising that Montblanc decided, as a tribute to her greatness, to create a pen in her name as part of their ‘Muses’ series, which honors women who have had a significant impact on culture and society.
The pen is offered in three versions: fountain pen, rollerball, and ballpoint. It is designed inspired by the woman dubbed ‘the divine’ for her ability to span nearly three octaves with her voice. Besides her commanding voice and stage personality, Callas was also known for her fashion sense, reflected in the pen’s body and cap, made of turquoise precious resin, one of her favorite colors. The overall look of the pen reflects her delicate and elegant figure.
On the silver cap ring, you’ll find an engraving depicting a laurel wreath, associated with one of Callas’s famous roles—’Norma’ from Bellini’s opera, in which she sang the aria ‘Casta Diva’ wearing a white gown adorned with a laurel wreath. Callas’s stylish flair and love for jewelry and flowers are evident in the gemstone on the pen’s clip, reminiscent of her special ‘Calla Lily’ appearance. The deep turquoise hue of the stone symbolizes the Aegean Sea, paying homage to her Greek roots.”
This captures the essence of the Montblanc Muses Maria Callas Special Edition pen beautifully.
